Step 1. Change Your Transfer PIN (If You Haven’t Yet)
MTN provides a default PIN: “0000”. It’s recommended to change it before your first transfer. You can change your pin via USSD or SMS format.
SMS format:
- Send an SMS with your Default PIN New PIN New PIN to 321. For example, send an SMS with “0000 1234 1234” to 321.
USSD format
- You can also change your PIN by dialing *321*Default PIN*New PIN* New PIN# on your phone and then click on send. For example, dial *321*0000*1234*1234# and then send. Once done successfully, you will receive a confirmation message.
Step 2. Airtime Transfer
Once you have your pin, MTN airtime transfer becomes very easy. You can transfer via USSD or SMS.
USSD format
- Dial *321*Recipient’s Number*Amount*PIN# on your phone and then click on send. For example, dial *321*07032780104*200*1234# and then send. When the transfer has been completed, you will receive a message informing you that the transfer was successful.
This will send ₦200 to the number 07032780104 using your transfer PIN 1234.
SMS format
- Send an SMS with Transfer, Recipient’s Number, Amount and PIN to 321. For example, you can send an SMS with “Transfer 07032780104 1500 1234” to 321.
- Upon sending this message, you will receive an SMS asking you to confirm that you want to make the transfer by sending an SMS with ‘YES’ to 321.
Who can use MTN share service?
- All MTN new and existing prepaid customers , except bonus based tariff plans, that is, Yafun-Yafun and BetaTalk customers.
Important Things to Note
- Minimum transferable amount: ₦50
- Maximum amount in a single transaction: ₦10,000
- Daily limit to either a single line or multiple lines: ₦100,000
- Transfers only work between MTN lines.
- You can only transfer in Naira amounts and not in kobo, i.e. you can transfer NGN250.00 but not NGN250.50.
- You will not be able to transfer MTN airtime if your balance is insufficient.
- If you are a postpaid customer, you will only be able to transfer airtime when your account is in positive. You will not be able to transfer airtime when your account is negative (-). For example, if your account balance is N-700.00. You will not be able to use MTN Share. However, if you have enough balance then you can transfer.
